Imagine self-training your dog at home with the help of a dog-training guru, and seeing improvements in your dog’s behavior on day one.
Success stories and testimonials like these fill Doggy Dan’s online training site. Doggy Dan is an expert dog trainer who provides an online program, called The Online Dog Trainer, to fully train dogs into well-behaved and respectful companions.
With over 10 years of experience helping 57,000+ dog owners train dogs of all breeds and ages, Doggy Dan has an impressive history of completely fixing all sorts of dog behavioral problems.
He actually guarantees that “99% of problems disappear for good” if you properly implement his training and are persistent in doing so.
My name is Kevin, and as a passionate dog trainer who has struggled quite a bit with the more aggressive dogs, I wanted to sign up for The Online Dog Trainer after hearing about it. I thought there had to be something I could do better to alleviate stress at a job I was supposed to love.
Over the past decade, I’ve been a pet enthusiast and, like Doggy Dan, studied pet behaviors for many years.
While I was able to develop effective training techniques after years of dedication, I still struggled to connect with aggressive dogs. This affected my confidence and business, as dog owners wanted to see quicker results than what I was able to give them.
Nevertheless, as a dog (and cat!) owner, I understood that we always want what is best for our pets. Determined to find a solution, I came across Doggy Dan’s site by recommendation and signed up with anticipation.
After testing the product, I quickly developed strong opinions and decided to write this Doggy Dan’s Online Dog Trainer review.
I hope that it can help you determine whether the program is right for you and your dog.

The Importance Of Dog Training
Many people might wonder what would make someone so passionate about dog training.
Well, it’s helpful to think about how much dogs contribute to society — either by being loyal lifelong friends, aiding in police investigations, working alongside firefighters to save lives, serving those with special needs, or simply bringing joy to people around the world.
When people think about this, they realize that dogs should be able to live comfortably among humans and understand what we want from them.
However, effectively communicating with dogs will always require some training.
Since dogs aren’t born with good behavioural instincts, new dog owners will often struggle with normal dog behaviors, such as biting, barking and ignoring their calls. It is completely up to us to help our dogs learn to control unwanted behaviours.
Something most dog owners struggle with at first is having their dogs listen when called. As a result, they wholly rely on the leash when walking their dogs, for fear that they may run off and get in trouble, never come back, or perhaps get run over by a car.
Nevertheless, almost every dog owner would love to give their pets freedom to exercise and socialize without leash restraint.
Benny The Pomeranian
Furthermore, many accidents and trauma can be avoided with proper training. Take Benny, the one-year-old Pomeranian I began training recently, who got away from his owner in the suburbs and suffered a tragic car accident.
Benny’s owner expressed deep remorse and explained the utter agony she felt as he ran off into the street, not realizing a car was coming.
Benny now walks with a mobility aid, as he lost both hind legs in the accident. Thankfully, he is now being trained to obey his owner’s calls and won’t be running into trouble anymore.
Cases like these are surprisingly common, and as owners, we have to determine whether our dogs are trained to face whatever they may encounter out there.
My Thoughts On Doggy Dan’s Online Dog Trainer
First of all, it makes sense that this dog-training program is made for dog owners, so that they may take the knowledge and apply it with their dogs.
For some reason, when I initially heard about it, I got the idea that some guy had figured out how to make dogs listen to instruction online. Having cleared that up, I thought that if Doggy Dan’s methods truly worked on all breeds, my longtime struggle with aggressive dogs could soon be over.
The reason I trusted Doggy Dan right away is I got the impression that he wasn’t just in it to sell courses. In fact, I noticed he had plenty of free useful information on his site, such as his Potty Training Course and Obedience Course.
Doggy Dan’s story was that of an actual philanthropist trying to make the world a better place for dogs using gentle, simple, logical training methods.
After studying dog training for many years around the globe, Doggy Dan found the problem with most training methods was that they only treated the behavioral symptoms and not their root cause.
So he put together an affordable course specifically designed to treat this by creating connections and communication between dogs and owners.
At that point, I thought that if anything could save my dog-training business, it would be this seemingly revolutionary program.
What Exactly You Get With Doggy Dan’s Online Dog Trainer
The Online Dog Trainer is a comprehensive membership program that provides people with the necessary tools to successfully train any dog. It has an easy-to-use interface with multiple sections on everything related to dog training.
Keep in mind that the resources you’ll have access to in the members area will depend on the offer you initially accepted and whether or not you’re still in the trial period.
The Online Dog Trainer ‘Complete Pack’

This is the heart of The Online Dog Trainer. It’s a comprehensive program that consists of six courses totaling over 200 video lessons, audio, PDFs, and articles.
This course pack gives you the full picture, covering every aspect of dog behaviour. The courses are:
1. The Dog Calming Code (22 Videos)
This is the base for your entire dog-training journey, and it’s the course every member of The Online Dog Trainer needs to take first before anything else.
This is because it teaches the foundation for getting your dog into a state where they are able to listen to you and be receptive to training. Doggy Dan does this by teaching you ‘The 5 Golden Rules‘ of dog ownership.
The 5 Golden Rules
The 5 Golden Rules are really the secret sauce of the entire Online Dog Trainer program.
They are easy to implement and were created by Doggy Dan himself. They allow you to calm your dog in any situation and become the pack leader in its eyes.
These rules will treat issues related to barking, chewing, stealing, biting, toilet training, socializing, and anything else your dog may struggle with.
Using this code will begin to transform your relationship with your dog.
2. Everyday Tools & Techniques (18 Videos)
Learn the very techniques Doggy Dan uses to train the dogs of high-paying clients and celebrities. Methods include the Stick Trick, Energy Meter, Short Line, and Calm Freeze.
These tools are invaluable for any dog owner to have because they help you gain control of any situation within a couple of minutes.
I recommend taking this course last, especially if you have particularly tricky or stubborn cases of unwanted behaviour.
3. Puppy Training (31 Videos)
If you own a puppy, this is the training you should take after digesting The Dog Calming Code.
In it, Doggy Dan walks you through everything you need to know about training a puppy, from potty-training to socializing and command training. This way, you’ll minimize the chances of your dog developing behavioural issues into adulthood.
4. Project Moses (68 Videos)
This is more like a case study than a course, but it’s very useful.
Project Moses is personal video diary that follows Doggy Dan as he trains his puppy Moses from 8 weeks to a year old. You’ll be able to see everything he does, including how he implements The 5 Golden Rules that are the pillars of The Online Dog Trainer.
I recommend that puppy owners take this course immediately after Puppy Training.
5. Dog Problems (56 Videos)
Own an adult dog? This is the next course you should take after The Dog Calming Code.
This course is all about quick, easy solutions to behavioural issues such as barking, pulling on the leash, and aggression. You can find more details about the personal resources Doggy Dan uses in these situations here!
6. Dog Training (41 Videos)
This is one of the last courses that The Online Dog Trainer members should take after going through the others, but it’s a really good one.
This course shows you how to develop an advanced understanding of and connection to your dog. Once you do this, you’ll be much better equipped to deal with any unwanted behaviours that may arise in the future and turn your dog into an outstanding family member for years to come.
Once you’ve gone through everything in a given section, you can mark the section as “Complete” and automatically be taken to the next section.
Communication & Relationship
The program will teach you how to communicate in a way that your dog will understand. Not knowing how to do this can result in a very frustrated owner and confused pet, which is only counterproductive.
The more you and your dog understand each other, the better the relationship you’ll have.
Mobile App
Doggy Dan and his team have come out with a mobile app that allows you to access The Online Dog Trainer members area resources (including the training courses and community forum) on-the-go from your mobile device.
I had a hard time finding the Android version of this app. From what I understand, the app is experiencing technical difficulties, but it should be fixed soon enough.
Various Media
In order to better suit your learning preferences, The Online Dog Trainer includes video, audio, and text with all sorts of information on every topic.
There are hundreds of videos and loads of information that will address everything you need to know to become an expert trainer.
1-On-1 Personal Sessions
This is a relatively new offer from Doggy Dan. You can connect with a dog training guru (her name is Hayley) through video call software such as Skype or Zoom and discuss your own unique situation with your dog.
If you want more personalized help than what you get with the training courses and online community, this is an excellent option. At the time of writing, a 50-minute session costs $69, which is very reasonable.
Guarantee
Doggy Dan guarantees your satisfaction with the program, no matter what your dog’s issues. There is a 60-day “No Questions Asked” Money-Back Guarantee, which makes getting the program 100% risk-free.
The following are a few of the things Doggy Dan promises you through his program:
Teach your dog to…
- Stay when tempted to chase people or animals
- Follow your directions
- Ignore other distractions, such as noise
- Come to you
- Walk with you
- Not run away when a door is left open
- Stop being aggressive
Free Bonus Trio
Doggy Dan is currently offering three free bonuses ($287 value) with the membership:
1. The Online Dog Trainer Community
This consists of two main parts: the Doggy Dan team and a community of fellow dog-owners.
Firstly, you can ask Doggy Dan’s team questions directly, and even post videos of your dog’s behaviour that they can analyze and offer advice on.
Secondly, you can post in and browse the forum, read what other dog owners have to say about their situations, and get their input on your issues.
2. Weekly Video Updates
In the weekly video updates section, Doggy Dan will post his latest live consultations with his face-to-face clients. This allows you to see how Doggy Dan’s ‘5 Golden Rules’ work with different dogs in real-life situations.
3. The Download Library
You can access to Doggy Dan’s entire library of audio, video, PDFs and articles and refer to them any time you want. There is also a blog and podcast that can be very beneficial to you.
A Quick Tour Of The Online Dog Trainer
The Online Dog Trainer recently gave their members area an overhaul. The new design makes it easier than ever before to work through the courses and access all the available resources.
Let’s take a tour through this members area. Once you log in, you’ll land on this page:

If you’re new to everything, I strongly suggest watching the tour video by clicking “Start Here”. In this video, Doggy Dan shows you how to navigate the members area from top to bottom.
Now, let’s talk about how accessing the ‘Complete Pack’ courses. You can either click the tile on the home page or use the dropdown menu in the top navigation.

Each course consists of several sections (or steps) which you can access from the main course page. To make sure that you understand what’s going on, I strongly recommend you take the steps in chronological order and not jump to random sections.
Once you’ve completed a step, mark it as “Completed” and move onto the next section. As I alluded to before, you’ll need to mark “The Dog Calming Code” course as completed before you can access other courses within The Online Dog Trainer.

Next are the resources. Click on the relevant item in the top menu and access one-on-one sessions, video updates, Doggy Dan’s personal recommendations, a referral program, Doggy Dan’s book, and the blog and podcast.
The next item in the top menu is the forum, which you’ll be able to access once you get through the trial period.
Lastly, the “My Account” section is where you can manage your account, view your progress, contact product support, and access the Knowledge Base. Note that you should only contact The Online Dog Trainer support for technical questions related to the product and not dog-related matters.

The courses in The Online Dog Trainer are what’s most important, but you can access all of the additional features as you see fit. Overall, the members area is very easy to navigate.

My Results After Getting Doggy Dan’s Online Dog Trainer
Now, I’m sure you’d like to know whether my issue with aggressive dogs was resolved after using the program.
Well, not only did I learn to completely manage and treat aggressive dog behavior, but I was able to polish other areas of my technique that I did not even know needed polishing. I improved the quality of my services in a way that I couldn’t have imagined before.
I started seeing the Online Dog Trainer purchase as a small yet significant career investment.
I had been wanting to raise my pricing for a while, but I knew people wouldn’t pay more for a relatively average service. So after sticking to the program for a couple months, I decided that my skills were ready for the price upgrade.
Although it took more than a couple months to fully overcome my issue with aggressive dogs, the improvement was there within a few days, which was more than any other course or training ever did for me.
The results were so good that I decided to continue being a Doggy Dan Online Dog Trainer member for as long as I trained dogs, so as to always have all necessary and current information at my fingertips.
Conclusion: Very Happy With Doggy Dan’s Online Dog Trainer
Needless to say, I am very pleased with what I was able to accomplish using this program.
After dealing with other “courses” that only managed to basically scam me for money, this was truly a refreshing experience.
Perhaps those other places weren’t deliberately trying to scam me, but they simply didn’t have the kind of truly ground-breaking knowledge that I needed, which I finally got with Doggy Dan.
One other thing I really like about The Online Dog Trainer is that Doggy Dan and the team behind it really care about their program. They didn’t just set it and forget it; they are constantly providing support to members, adding new content, and upgrading the look of the site to improve the experience.
Within just a few days using Online Dog Trainer, I was able to understand how a dog-training course could have such a huge online following and so many positive testimonials. The program is more than just a great training source — it’s a revolutionary way of living with dogs by being gentle and actually understanding them.
I will continue applying Doggy Dan’s gentle and simple approaches to dog training and follow his ongoing journey towards bettering the world of dogs and their owners.
Thanks to Doggy Dan, more dogs live harmoniously and happy among humans, and dog owners can finally rest easy knowing that their pets will behave and feel good.

I have two male labs and one female shih tzu — I just started the program with the males but for the female one I haven’t since its pregnant. I really need somebody to tell me whether its safe to train the female dog too? and if yes, will the training interfere with the pregnancy?
Am really loving the progress with my male labs and I feel that I should also involve the female but I fear that this training might interfere with the pregnancy. Please advise me on the best move to take because I am already in love with this program. it’s essentially a self-trainer with no outrageous and unnecessary costs. I will be happy to know how to deal with this. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the comment. Yes, you should be able to train your pregnant shih tzu, but I would recommend avoiding any activity that is too strenuous during that time. Note that shih tzus aren’t the easiest breed to train; with that said, if you use treats and rewards, you should see good results. Let me know if you still have questions. Good luck!
I heard about this program from a friend and decided to try it since my dog (a rottweiler) has a barking and aggression problem. Before I got to know about the product, I had spent a ton of money on local trainers and also working with already trained dogs, but with this program I was able to do everything on my own, and I really think that is ideal for a dog owner. At first it was kind of difficult for me since I had not done it before, but it got much easier with time.
My dog is are great, his aggression problem is all but gone (he still has his moments, but they’re very rare now), and on top of that, I can communicate with him easily. Part of me is sad to say this, but I accomplished more with this program than with all of the trainers I had previously hired combined. The best part is that my dog can attack in times of danger according to how I’ve trained him. I have also noticed that my dog is now much more disciplined.
One thing I would say to those on the fence is that this isn’t an instant solution; it requires time, effort and consistency, and there’s no guarantee you’re going to achieve your desired result. Having said that, I’m really loving what TODT has done for me.
Thanks a lot for the insights and for sharing your story! I’m glad to hear that you’ve found success.
I’m thinking of getting this, but I’d like to know if I should train my male and female dogs the same way. Should I train them separately? I’d appreciate some kind of response before I start with this because I don’t want to make a mistake. Thanks.
Hi Dana. That’s an interesting question. I think it’s hard to say one way or the other whether male and female dogs respond differently to given trainings. In my experience with all of the dogs I’ve worked with, I haven’t seen any kind of pattern that would suggest this is the case. I would recommend training them the same way, and if anything, you can look at the individual traits of the dogs and take that into account.
I rarely comment on reviews, but this program has really done a lot for me and my family and I have to give credit where it’s due. I came across this program a while back and decided to try it with my problematic German Shepherd puppies. The area we live in is a bit dangerous, but from the training I was able to offer to my puppies, which are now all nearly full grown, we now have some great guard dogs who have really tightened up security around our property.
Our neighbors are almost fearful of visiting because of the way our dogs have a very strong presence (although they don’t attack unprovoked). I followed all the steps detailed in the program, and although there were some bumps in the road, I am a very happy client.
I just wanted to share a bit of my story. I’d say most dog owners should try this program as an alternative to paying an arm and a leg for local training or correctional services.
Thanks a lot for sharing Abhi. It’s a good thing if your dog has a defensive instinct that allows them to serve as guard dogs for your home, and I’m glad to hear that you have achieved the results you wanted. German Shepherds can be excellent guard dogs. Of course, this isn’t the only thing covered in the program, which, as you allude to, is very affordable. Just out of curiosity, what “bumps in the road” did you experience?
I’ve been in this program for a few months now, and I’m quite pleased with it. The txt instruction is helpful, but the video is just golden… The guy has a comprehensive collection of videos that are packed with information (and I generally agree with his philosophies related to dog training). As for the forum, I’ve asked a few questions myself and gotten into a few discussions (with Doggy Dan as well), and I’ve gotten some great advice there. If you are a dog owner, this product will give you everything you need short of hiring a personal dog trainer.
Thanks for sharing your experience Heather. They’re offering a trial, and I would highly recommend that anyone on the fence give it a try.
Thank you for sharing this review and your experience. I’m considering the program to try to help my corgis—the “new” pup (she’s 8 months old now) is terribly aggressive towards the older pup. My heart breaks to think I’ll have to give one of them up. I really truly hope this program does work.
Best of luck, and I hope TODT is a big help for you.
Did it work for you?
